Distances to Other Concepts

Instructions

You can make EPA profiles using the rating scale above.

Click inside the box that says "Your stimulus," and type the name of something.

Rate your stimulus on the evaluation scale by pressing an arrow button with the computer mouse. The pointer moves along the scale while you hold the arrow button down. If you think the stimulus is bad, press the left-arrow button to record how bad you think the stimulus is. If you think the stimulus is good, press the right-arrow button to record how good you think the stimulus is.

Click the round blank button. You get a new scale for rating potency. Record your feelings about the potency of the stimulus.

Click the blank button. You get a new scale for rating activity. Record your feelings about the activity of the stimulus.

Click the blank button.

The box named "EPA profile" will show how your ratings convert to numbers. The first number represents your evaluation rating, the second is your potency rating, the third is your activity rating.

The table titled "Distances to Other Concepts" will show 27 identities for different kinds of people, along with the EPA profile for each identity as obtained from more than 50 undergraduate females and males. The fourth number in <> brackets is the distance from that identity to the stimulus you rated.

Click the gray "Clear" button to start over with a new stimulus.
